What is linkbait?

Linkbait is also known as clickbait or link magnet, which is one of the strategies in the field of search engine optimization. This strategy is intended to generate a lot of traffic for the website in a natural way. The aim of the strategy is to obtain numerous backlinks for a website. Users link to a website due to a specific measure such as competitions.

What does linkbait mean for SEO?

External and, above all, natural links are very important for search engine rankings. This is why linkbait is a good tool for SEO. The creators of the measures usually have no influence on anchor texts and backlink placements. With this variant, link building develops naturally without links having to be bought or exchanged.

However, link building has its disadvantages. SEOs cannot control link building and have no control over generated backlinks.

Many natural and high-quality backlinks are good for the ranking. However, if link building suddenly increases sharply, Google may suspect spam. Manipulation is prohibited according to the webmaster regulations. If the sudden increase in backlinks is classified as spam, Google may penalize you.

On the one hand, linkbaiting is good because it contributes to good backlinks. On the other hand, however, it also entails risks.
