What is competition?
The term competition refers to competitors. Companies normally know competing companies. In the field of SEO, however, all websites that target the same search term are considered competitors. Even if the companies have nothing in common, they can still be considered competitors. It is possible that a hairdresser is also active in the cosmetics sector and is therefore also found under this term. You could also find a store selling cosmetics under this term. In this case, the hairdresser and the store are competitors.
What does competition mean for SEO?
It always makes sense to start by analyzing the competition. This is the only way to uncover the weaknesses of the competition and improve. With a correct analysis, it is possible to find out which companies are visible and what traffic they have. SEOs should also track and evaluate changes.
If you have filtered out strong competitors, you can now discover the most important keywords. There are special tools that display the search volume of a search term and also list the competition in comparison. Once you have identified the strong keywords, you can adapt the website accordingly or create new subpages on a specific topic in order to also rank well for the search term and outperform the competition.
