What is a blocker?
Blockers on the Internet are filters for certain elements. They prevent certain ads and content from being displayed. Well-known examples are ad blockers and pop-up blockers.
What do blockers mean for SEO?
Ad blockers and pop-up blockers are not insignificant in terms of SEO. If used frequently, blockers can contribute to a negative ranking in search engines. If pop-ups are always blocked, this may have a positive effect on the ranking. SEO measures therefore include first checking whether a website has activated or deactivated pop-up blockers and whether pop-ups are used.
If a pop-up blocker is activated, SEO specialists may not be able to correctly evaluate and analyze another website. Adwords customers must also ensure that they do not violate the Adwords guidelines. Advertising with Adwords is not permitted on websites that are accompanied by pop-ups.
How does a blocker work?
An ad blocker analyzes whether corresponding elements should be loaded when the website is called up. If there are advertisements, they are blocked by the blocker. This is also the case with pop-up blockers. They block the appearance of pop-up elements. Pop-ups do not always have to be advertisements. A registration field or newsletter field is also possible, for example. Blockers can usually be set individually so that pop-ups and advertisements from the desired sites are displayed. It is also possible to put only certain websites on a blacklist so that the relevant elements do not appear on these sites.
