What is blocked content?

Pages with blocked content are websites that have been blocked for certain reasons by the search engine operators or the website operators themselves. Pages may not have been indexed or penalized by Google due to duplicate content.

What does blocked content mean for SEO?

Blocking content is an important tool for search engine optimizers. There are various situations in which blocking is necessary. A website may still be under construction and should therefore not yet be indexed. Or there may be pages with duplicate content, which is why a page should not be included in the index.

However, SEOs should ensure that the most important pages are not blocked. Such pages cannot be added to the index. They also do not pass on any link juice. From an SEO perspective, this is less conducive to a good ranking.

Thanks to the Robots.txt file, it is possible to store instructions for search engines as to whether a website should be indexed or not. Pages with instructions that they should not be indexed are normally not included in the index.

The most common variant for blocking content for search engines is the Meta Robots element. Meta Robots is an HTML meta tag in the header. This tag can be used to specify whether or not content should be included in the index. Webmasters can also specify whether the links on the page should be followed.
